Brunch for good

Brunch for good

Pink food – ranging from salmon mornay to pink donuts, watermelon and feta salad, and a pair of breast-shaped cheesecakes – was the order of the day at Merthyr Road Uniting Church’s first community Sunday brunch on October 6.

The event, held as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, raised funds for local north Brisbane charity, Be Uplifted Inc., which provides practical care and financial assistance for women undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Co-founder and breast cancer survivor, Wendy Paterson, told the poignant story of the charity’s beginnings and some stories of the significant difference it has made to women and their families.

This was the first of three community Sunday brunches. The brunch on November 3 supported the Movember Foundation for men’s health and had a Backyard BBQ food theme, and on December 1, which is World AIDS Day, the brunch will feature rainbow food and support the work of Qld Positive People with people who are HIV+.

The brunch starts at 11:00 am, the food is free, the charity tells their story, and people can support them through buying their merchandise or making a donation.
