Marion’s big day out

Do you have a photo of the steamroller in New Farm Park to share?

Marion’s big day out

Teneriffe Lions Club (TLC) and Queensland Steam and Vintage Machinery Society (QSVMS) are teaming up to bring Marion the steamroller, who once served as a children’s plaything, back to New Farm Park for a steam display day.

TLC President David Jonas said Marion will be “chuffing up and down blowing her whistle” throughout the day.

After its removal in 2006, the machine was re-homed to the QSVMS at Old Petrie Town who spent 11 years restoring it. They have named the steamroller “Marion”.

The Teneriffe Lions Club (TLC) are funding transport for the restored roller from the QSVMS base at Petrie to New Farm Park and back, and will be running a sausage sizzle.

The New Farm and Districts Historical Society is adding its local skills and resources to collect information and memories about Marion and to provide historical background on Marion and New Farm Park.

Society president Robert Allen congratulated the Lions Club on their initiative in bringing Marion to the park.

“I encourage anyone who loves history and steam engines to come along,” Mr Allen said.

The free Community Event at New Farm Park will be held on Sunday, May 10, 10am-3pm.

Stay tuned to updates from both Teneriffe Lions Club and New Farm Historical Society’s social media.

Members of the public who remember playing on Marion in the park are invited to send memories and photos to info@newfarmhistorical.org.au.
