Whilst taking a trike ride through New Farm Park I remembered an old photograph I have showing my grandfather (on my mother’s side) William Stewart on the horse drawn cylinder mower he used at New Farm Park. Also, he tended to the rose gardens.

Unfortunately, I do not know when the photograph was taken.

As the Messinbird families resided on the south side of Brisbane travel was limited as very few people had motor vehicles. You could imagine that it would be an all-day excursion to visit the park by tram.

William rubbing plug tobacco for his smoking pipe. The dress may be typical of the worker in those days.
