Brisbane throws open its doors for Open House
By Bella Duncan
Brisbane Open House returns for the weekend of July 18 and 19, inviting locals to step inside some of the city’s most significant buildings and spaces.
Now in its 15th year, the 2026 program is one of the biggest yet, with 93 buildings and spaces opening their doors across Greater Brisbane.
The community event celebrates architecture, design and heritage, offering rare access to places that are not usually open to the public.
Visitors can explore everything from heritage landmarks to contemporary commercial towers, alongside guided walks, expert talks and behind-the-scenes experiences.
Brisbane Powerhouse and Newstead House will be open to visitors as part of the program.
Highlights this year include a record 16 architect-designed private homes, plus first-time access to buildings such as The Calile, The Gabba and 360 Queen Street.
Visitors can also experience Brisbane after dark through a series of twilight walks and talks.
Special events will explore topics including adaptive reuse, the future of heritage, and the legacy of the Queensland Cultural Centre as Brisbane looks ahead to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Most buildings are free to visit, while some tours and events require advance bookings and attract a small fee.
Whether you’re passionate about architecture or simply curious about the city’s hidden spaces, Brisbane Open House offers a unique opportunity to discover the stories behind the places that shape Brisbane.
