Dancing do for DV Connect

Dancing do for DV Connect

St Michael and All Angels Church will open their doors for a night of line dancing to fundraise for DV Connect on July 18.

Event organiser Julie McAllister is excited for the twist on the fundraiser event.

“We were looking to do something a little bit different. So, I just sort of said, ‘Why don’t we do line dancing?’ It’s such a popular thing at the moment,” Ms McAllister said.

DV Connect provides the only 24/7 crisis helpline for people experiencing domestic and family violence in Queensland, receiving more than 230,000 calls for help last year.

Reverend Olaf said that being a part of the solution to domestic and family violence is important to the Anglican Church and their parishioners.

He said they aim “to get DV Connect’s name out there and keep the issue of DV and family violence at the forefront”.

Ms McCallister has been busy preparing for the fundraiser, planning to deck the halls with festoon lights and cowboy decorations.

“We’ve actually got commercial festoon lights that we’re going to put up right across the hall. We’re bringing in bales of hay, I’ve got old ladders, old all sorts of things,” Ms McAllister said.

Gilly’s Line Dancing will be leading the boot scooting with local musician Georgia Scarlett.

Tickets are $25 and doors open at 6pm.
