Red Rose Bench
By Bella Duncan
A new Red Rose Bench will be unveiled on November 23 at the riverside green space beside Goldsborough Place Teneriffe to raise awareness of domestic violence.
The event, hosted by Brisbane City Council in partnership with the Teneriffe Lions Club, forms part of the Red Rose Foundation’s ongoing initiative to install red benches in public spaces as lasting symbols of remembrance and support.
Central Ward Councillor Vicki Howard will officially open the new bench and the Lions will put on a community barbecue.
The event will run from 10am – 1pm, and attendees are welcome to place a card on the bench in honour of someone affected by domestic violence.
The Red Bench Project began in 2019, and there are now more than 400 Red Rose Benches across Australia.
Each features a plaque inscribed with the message: “Let’s change the ending.”
All money raised at the event will be donated to the Red Rose Foundation.
