KittyCat changes up for debate

The community feedback period for the Brisbane City Council’s plans to double the frequency of KittyCats closed on November 17.
Services would double at kittycat-only terminals, and a reconfiguration of the CityHopper and inner-city Cross-River routes would see more efficient connections to the CityCat network.
The changes would see the frequency of Maritime Museum-QUT Gardens Point, Holman Street-Riverside, and Dockside to Sydney Street cross-river services go from one service every half-hour to one every fifteen minutes.
Civic Cabinet Chair for Transport Councillor Ryan Murphy said: “We know residents who use the CityHopper often face overcrowded vessels and want more frequent services.
“With more KittyCat services planned alongside the Kangaroo Point Bridge opening on 15 December residents are about to see a huge boost to public and active transport in the area,” Cr Murphy said.
Chair of the Kangaroo Point Transport Action Group Jane Layton said: “It is gratifying to see that the BCC have listened to the community… and are increasing the frequency of the CityHopper ferries.”
“It will allow more frequent connections with the CityCats, but we still feel a CityCat stop in Kangaroo Point is warranted by the usage numbers, and it would eliminate transfer time wasted waiting for a connection,” Ms Layton said.
“The 27 shuttle bus is also still needed because of its direct route into the CBD for workers, students and parents with small children or people with mobility issues,” Ms Layton said.
