Wheels turn at local Men’s Shed
By Nate Priebbenow
After four years, the New Farm Men’s Shed have finally found a home in Teneriffe by the river, complete with a million-dollar view.
President Michael Dennis said: “We got our new home in February under a year-to-year licensing agreement from the Council.”
“I believe this place has the best view of any Men’s Shed in Australia.”
Mr Dennis thanked Councillor Vicki Howard’s office for their support.
“Our little effort at the moment is to recondition some bikes in cooperation with the Teneriffe Lions.”
“They pass donated bikes on to us, and after we repair them and sell them off, we share whatever profit we make with the Lions Club,” Mr Dennis said.
At his group’s annual general meeting on August 22, Mr Dennis recalled the charity’s national mission slogan: “men talk shoulder to shoulder.”
“There is a definite need for elderly men, especially widowers and single folk, to get out of their shell and talk to other men,” he said.
“There are a lot of retired men who sit at home with very little to do, but they can come down here, have a chat over tea or coffee, and get going with the craftwork.”
The New Farm Men’s Shed meet at 29 Macquarie St in Teneriffe on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am – 1pm.
