Bluey’s new home in the library

Bluey’s new home in the library

Forty miniature characters from Bluey can be found in New Farm Library on the ‘Bluey tree’ thanks to an installation knitted and crocheted by a local group.

Crafter Marianne Alcock said: “It’s taken us six years to catch on to Bluey, but she’s very adorable, she’s all about parenting and she’s very Brisbane, like this area, especially here, where there are more dogs than people.”

Created by about 30 Threads and Yarn Crafters (and one structural engineer), the Bluey tree was inspired by the yarn-bombed trees at Warwick’s Jumpers and Jazz Festival; however, due to security concerns, the library was chosen instead of a tree to host their work.

“I’ve found today that craft circles are where skills are stowed, and time slows just enough to appreciate the joy of making something by hand,” Ms Alcock said.

“There’s something timeless and beautiful about coming together in a circle to create; we’re strangers becoming friends.”
