Big-hearted kids bake for a cause

Over the school holidays, siblings Eloise Boyd, nine, and Sebastian Boyd, eight, spent their time baking homemade dog treats for local pups at Waterfront Dog Park in Newstead to raise money for Levi’s Project.

Levi’s Project was started by Kathryn Wakelin and Ben Wheeler after their son Levi passed away from a deadly childhood cancer, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG).

The charity supports world-leading research and clinical trials at the Children’s Cancer Institute for children with DIPG and brain cancer.

The Boyd family personally knew Levi, and fundraising in his honour has become a cherished school holiday tradition.

Eloise and Sebastian made their dog treats from boiled chicken and vegetables, which proved to be a big hit with the local dogs.

They also baked human biscuits for those without furry friends so everyone could enjoy a treat.

The pair said the day was full of fun and friendly faces, and they met a new favourite pup named Winnie.

“Winnie was a cute little baby corgi, and we want to do this again in the future,” they both said.

Their mother, Amy Lee, said the experience was a wonderful way to raise awareness while teaching her children valuable life skills.

“It was so great to raise awareness about Levi’s Project and to show my kids how businesses work while interacting with people,” she said.
