From the Park’s patron – Claire Moore

Yesterday I wandered through New Farm Park to  share in the wonderful Jazz and Jacaranda event around the beautiful Rotunda. Many people supported the event and , despite the heat and the smoke, our Park was energised by the joy and energy of great musicians playing captivating jazz classics. There was even encouragement to sing along to the familiar and much loved classics, though this was not compulsory !

Sitting under the beautiful Jacarandas surrounded by happy people enjoying a peaceful afternoon, I found myself thinking about the history of this area; this often happens to me , and I feel connected to our many people over the years have gathered in the Park , around the Rotunda, to listen to music, picnic, maybe even dance, creating special memories? While the classic jazz music from the 1930s, Cole Porter, Rogers and Hart were in my mind. I also visited the nearby Sandakan Memorial. More on that on my next Posting.
